Honest & Vulnerable - 2013

I'm going to be honest - I'm not a great business person...I hate discussing pricing, most of the time I don't charge enough, and dealing with taxes is definitely not my favorite thing.  (Don't worry, this post gets better...keep reading.)

There are a lot of "rules" in the photography industry about how to be a profitable business.  And honestly, I want to be profitable, I want to make a living running my photography business, and I want to have money to purchase new equipment.  But what I'm realizing is that making that my sole priority makes me miserable.  I started this business not only because I love photography and love creating memories for people, but because I love giving, sharing, and loving.  If my business isn't about those three things, then I don't want any part of it.  Those are the things that motivate me to strive for more and to dream bigger dreams.  I'm tired of trying to live up to the industry standards.  I love what I do and want to be profitable at it, but the desire of my heart is to give until it hurts.

Things are changing - I've got a new name, new logo, and a new website all in the works, as well as other exciting things for the future.  So.......if you hire me......know that I'm not only planning to give you wonderful memories, I'm going to take care of you and give you all I've got.  I will give, share, and love. 

Here's to a year full of fresh goals, big dreams, and a life of giving, because frankly, I don't want it any other way.

2012 IN REVIEW

I want to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all the wonderful people that have let me take your photos this year!  You have helped me learn, grow, and dream bigger dreams.  I'm so thankful for all of your encouragement and wisdom.  Love you guys!  I can't wait to see all the things that happen in your lives in the new year!  Be on the lookout for the new changes coming as I'm officially switching over to Katie Woody Photography soon!

St. Clair Family - Lubbock, TX Photographer

One of the greatest things about photography is the incredible people you get to meet and photograph.  And every once in a while, I get to simply use my camera and talent to give a sweet and remarkable gift to a deserving family.

Linda, Betsy, Mattie, and I came up with the idea to give the gift of photography to this precious family - and the joy it brought to their lives (and ours) was nothing short of inspirational.  So many people throughout the year have let us take a glimpse into their lives through our cameras - so thank you for giving us the chance to gift this family with their first-ever family photoshoot.

For the shoot, we split up and took individual pictures of the kids then got back together for group photos.  That's why on my blog you will see a lot of just the boy in the group.  He was so much fun to hang out with and very patient with me as I learned how to throw a football and take a photo at the same time!  :)

Now, enough talking, go check out this sweet family!

Brynlee - Olton, TX Family Photographer

Sweet little Brynlee - this girl is just precious and so full of energy.  Grandma Alisse brought the cutest outfits for her to wear, but she mostly loved running around in her diaper.  Even though I spent most of my time chasing her around with my camera, I love photographing kids at this age.  They are so sweet and this time goes by so fast.

Thank you Alisse for letting me photograph your sweet granddaughter.  I had the best time and I'm so glad to have met you both.  I can't wait to get your photos to you!

Jessica & Eric Parkey - Olton, TX Family Photographer

I seriously have met and photographed some of the most wonderful people this Christmas season!  And Jessica & Eric were no exception.  I mean, if they actually laughed at my jokes, they must be good people.  I loved getting to spend a little time with these two (and Opal their dog).

Jessica & Eric - thank you so much for being so wonderful and easy-going (and laughing at my jokes)!  You are such a beautiful couple and I know God is doing amazing things through your lives.  Merry Christmas!

This was by far the fastest and easiest session I've ever had with this large of a group.  And I love these wonderful images and how personalized they are to each family.  Kayla and Rickey could probably start their own antique store with all the fun things they have - it has definitely become my go-to place for props.  This is another beautiful family from our church that we have loved getting to know.

So, to all 10 of you - Thank you for being so easy-going, trusting, personalizing your session, and bringing so many great props.  I loved what we captured of your sweet families and loved getting to capture this part of life for you.  These are some my favorite photos!
